On June 27, 2006, Amy Benjamin received an award during the Second Annual Inspiration Awards Ceremony of the Step Up Women’s Network. She received the award for her book, The Waking Dance, as a tribute to  "women and girls that make a difference in New York."

The Step Up Women's Network is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to strengthening community resources for women and girls. Through hands-on community service, mentoring and fundraising for women's health and critical issues, the organization educates their membership to ensure that women and girls have the tools they need to create a better future.
