'The Waking Dance' is a first book for Amy Benjamin. She began to write this intimate and powerful memoir just after her fortieth birthday, after her experiences with breast cancer and a crumbled marriage left her standing still, in need to reconcile all that had descended upon her in a volatile four year span of time.
Amy grew up in Williamsville, NY, and resides there today with her four children. She attended The Buffalo Seminary, a girls' college prepatory school, then earned a B.A. degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Amy has been a residential real estate broker since 1987, and has carried a passion for writing throughout her entire life.
In her book, she embraces veins of uncensored honesty with a wit and a candor that makes the book difficult to put down and a great joy to read. The experiences that Amy has known throughout her trials with breast cancer have served her in ways not all bad. An embrace of one's mortality often prompts people to begin living their own life, on their own terms, and there is a gift in that license.
With a child in elementary school, middle school, high school, and college, Amy is deeply committed to raising her children as whole as they can be, and she has rediscovered a passion for life which was born in 'The Waking Dance.'
